CALL Petition tops 1,000 signatures

On Monday, May 9, Webb County Commissioner’s Court will consider a proposal by Commissioner Wawi Tijerina to OPPOSE the Pescadito dump.

Despite frantic efforts to get the proposal removed from the agenda by Rancho Viejo Waste Management principal C.Y. Benavides III — including an expensive full-page ad in Sunday’s Laredo Morning Times  — the item remains on the agenda.

Last week, CALL authored an online petition and began circulating the same petition to parties unable to access on the internet.

Tomorrow, we will present a petition of more than 1,300 names to Commissioner’s Court.

As amazing as the response has been by the people of Laredo, the dump developer has made it clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to get his dump permitted and under construction.  Even if it means withholding the whole story and telling half-truths as “facts.”

We urge you to continue your support for CALL and help us convince TCEQ to deny this permit.
