Senator Zaffirini Announces Public Meeting Regarding Pescadito Landfill
Aug. 11 Meeting is Opportunity for the Public
to Interact with Landfill Developer, State Agency
(AUSTIN) —The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will hold a public meeting focusing on the proposed Pescadito landfill in Webb County at 7pm Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Casa Blanca Event Center, 5400 East Saunders Street / US Hwy. 59, in Laredo.
Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, requested the meeting to provide the public an opportunity to ask questions and hear from the landfill developer and from the TCEQ about the project and its permitting process. The developer, C. Y. Benavides III, is seeking TCEQ approval for the site at 2864 Jordan Road to accept waste for disposal and recycling.
“Many Webb County residents are concerned about the proposed landfill and its potential impact not only on our land, air and water, but also on traffic, health and safety,” said Senator Zaffirini, who is Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs and is a member of the Senate Natural Resources & Economic Development Committee. “Because residents deserve an opportunity to voice their concerns and get answers to their questions about the project, I requested and secured TCEQ’s commitment to hold a public meeting.”
Additional information about the TCEQ permitting process for Pescadito is available via https://www.tceq.texas.gov/permitting/waste_permits/msw_permits/msw-proj-2374.html
The public may submit comments regarding the permit application to TCEQ until the conclusion of the Aug. 11 public meeting.
